呀~ 上電視了?!!!－WeY

實驗室最近發了一篇Nature的paper啦!!!! (唔...甚麼時候我也可以發一篇?!)
今天剛剛出版~ 新鮮熱辣的唷!

San Antonio本地local的新聞台也第一時間，在今天，來訪問我們老闆啦!!
雖然我沒有參與到這個project，但身為實驗室的一份子也是與有榮焉~ (訪問老闆時還可以當背景 XD)
{最新狀況~ (1)時代雜誌(TIMES)一早也打了電話給咱家老闆啦! (2)剛剛老闆進來要我stick around，說等會KSAT電視台也要來訪問... 然後(3)倫敦那邊希望他凌晨2點可以進這邊的studio好趕上倫敦明早的morning news}

Anyway~ 看網誌長知識，還是來介紹一下這篇Nature的文章唄 ^^

這個研究報告是關於目前臨床用於器官移植時抗排斥的藥，Rapamycin (Sirolimus)，即使在晚年服用，也可以延長老鼠的壽命。
"Rapamycin fed late in life extends lifespan in genetically heterogeneous mice" [link]

開始這個想法，是起因於研究指出限制卡路里攝取/Caloric restriction(CR; Wiki英文)可以延長壽命(可是人生於世，一直限制卡路里攝取，沒得享受吃也吃不好~ 也太慘了吧!)
但是CR要早早就開始時行，明確的機轉也一直尚未明朗，但這當中的牽涉的target of rapamycin (TOR)這個蛋白質似乎扮演了重要的角色；另外也有研究指出抑制TOR這個蛋白質可以延長壽命喔~

所以咧... 直接使用和TOR蛋白結合又兼具模擬CR做用的rapamycin這個想法就形成啦!!
然後咧咱們家的這篇餵老鼠吃rapamycin的paper就誕生啦!! (最好是有這麼簡單 =.=+)
其實這當中的苦與淚應該是難以言喻的~
這個project大概五年多前就開始了，當中有動物品種、藥品穩定性&長期給藥等等的問題要克服，一直到今天才有一點收穫 (小爆料一下: 也是因為要克服那些問題，才一直拖到老鼠晚年才給藥的

但是依然有用呀)
可研究生涯就是這樣吧~ 或者說人生於世就是這樣子......
努力了大半輩子，也許就求這麼一次的成功，也算是名留青史吧
(我也想發一篇Nature~ 然後去當家庭主婦 XD)

Congratulations to Barshop Institute faculty members, Drs. Randy Strong, Dave Sharp, and James Nelson, for their paper released just today in the journal, Nature!

Randy Strong, PhD, Professor of Pharmacology and Senior Research Career Scientist with the VA, is the director of the Barshop Institute site of the NIA-funded, Interventions Testing Program (ITP) under which the rapamycin study was conducted.

Dave Sharp, PhD, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Molecular Medicine and Director of the IBT, submitted a proposal to the NIA-ITP to study of the effects of rapamycin on aging, which was then selected for study and the results reported in the Nature paper.

James Nelson, PhD, Professor of Physiology, is the Director of the Animal Core of the San Antonio Nathan Shock Center for Excellence in the Biology of Aging.

KENS-5 TV is scheduled to air an interview between medical reporter, Wendy Rigby and Drs. Strong and Sharp this evening on the 5:00 pm newscast.
